Cultural Information:

Found throughout an extensive native range in the Midwest in a variety of habitats except high elevations.  Some authors regard this as the fastest growing of all hickories.

Field Observations: 

Easily recognized by the sulfur yellow terminal buds.  Nuts are sheathed by a thin, papery husk.
