American Plum is a widely distributed small tree ranging from New England to Illinois and south through Appalachia. It does not require any special cultural requirements. Often forms large colonies in waste areas or along roadways. White spring flowers are fragrant and the fruit is edible.

Hackberry, Slippery Elm, Black Cherry and Sumac species. The preceding species are also found in disturbed areas.
