Description
Cultural Information:
This tree prefers moist, well drained soils but do will well in dryer conditions. Highly adaptable. Transplants easily and can be grown in alkaline or acid soils. If given the right conditions this can be a very fast growing tree (65′ in 20 years)
Associated Species:
Along the rivers in central Ohio we find Bigtooth Aspen with Basswood, Silver Maple, Eastern Cottonwood, Bur Oak, Chinkapin Oak, Swamp White Oak, Blue Beech, and Sycamore. Shrub species would include Nannyberry and Eastern Wahoo.
Field Observations:
Generally found in moist areas around lakes, streams and ponds
