Nannyberry, Hoptree, Hackberry, Bur Oak, Shumard Oak, Silver Maple, Boxelder, Cottonwood, Eastern Wahoo, Bitternut Hickory
Field Observations:
This small tree grows commonly along the Scioto River and can easily be confused with Nannyberry based on fruit and leaf morphology. It’s not easily germinated in the trade and stratification protocols typically call for 6 to 9 months of treatment before sowing. Once sown however, it grows several feet per year. It is commonly seen as an understory tree along the river.
