Cultural Information:

An adaptable understory tree growing in moist to dry soils and on flat to sloping terrain.  Frequently found on limestone soils.  Some authors suggest that Carpinus caroliniana and Ostrya virginiana can be planted in similar environments with the following exception: if the area is prone to flooding or standing water then Carpinus is the better choice.  Otherwise, either is a good choice.
