Cultural Information:
Easily transplanted shrub that can reach 6-12′ feet tall and wide; although generally smaller. This species seems to do well in NE Ohio where the soil is more acidic and sandy. In fact, chlorosis can be a significant problem and soil pH must be determined before working with this species In general, this is an easy species to grow but it does require acidic soils for success. It should be planted in full or part sun.

This species is found growing along streams, bogs or other waterways especially in NE Ohio. It is a prolific bearer of fruit. Birds love the fruit and it makes a great, on-the-go snack.
