Description

Cultural Information:

A widely distributed tree of the eastern deciduous forest; the dominant species in some forest types. Can be an early successional species given moist but well drained sites. A rapidly growing tree under the right conditions.

Associated Species: [6]

Blackgum, Red Maple, White Oak, Hickories, Black Walnut, Northern Red Oak, Black Cherry, Yellow Buckeye, Beech and Cucumber-tree and Yellow Birch.

Field Observations:

This tree can withstand the relatively poor soils associated with mining practices provided there is suitable moisture. Along Route 33 in southern Ohio young tuliptrees get a foothold in the relatively moist “soil” at the side of the highway and begin to grow rapidly. In some cases it’s the only other tree besides black locust able to scratch out a living in the disturbed soil.

Tuliptree is Native to the following States & Ohio counties
