Description
Cultural Information:
A beautiful flowering tree that can grow in acidic or alkaline moist soil; native to limestone rich areas. Sparsely distributed through a number of states including Indiana and Kentucky. Highly adaptable to alkaline or acidic soil types. Prefers full sun. Prune only in summer as it is a “bleeder” in other seasons.
Associated Species: [6]
Field Observations:
A fine tree for all seasons. Spring presents with large panicles of white, very fragrant flowers that give way to seed pods. Fall and winter offer a chance for the smooth gray bark to shine. The bark is reminiscent of Beech bark. Some references have this species being native to Ohio while others do not.
