Riverside Bareroot Seedlings
It’s hard to believe that an entire year has gone by since we started our bareroot trees and shrub project. As with anything new we had our share of successes and failures. We received very good reviews on our tree seedlings which we were really pleased about. We’re also growing more species and in greater numbers than in 2020. On the flip side a lot of seeds planted last year did not come up and we’re hoping that another year in the ground will get them to germinate this spring. We’ve also asked Taylor Green to take over the production and distribution end of the bareroot business. He brings a wealth of agricultural knowledge as well as the desire to grow the best bareroot trees and shrubs. Currently, we are nearly sold out of tree seedlings but we do have some tree and shrub species in good numbers.
Now that we have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight one of the things that we would do differently is fertilize significantly less. We grew too many big seedlings. For instance we have Black Walnuts that will look you in the eye and these were actually planted late in spring. The species that we have which are large (large being 36″ and greater) include Black Walnut, Black Locust, Buttonbush, Catalpa, and Silver Maples. We’re offering these at $3.50 each in any quantity.
The species we are working with currently are listed below. We will be collecting seeds and offering additional species for fall 2021.
