Description
Cultural Information:
A highly adaptable Rosa species. Best growth occurs in average, medium to wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Full sun, however, promotes the best flowering. Mulch in Summer to keep roots cool and conserve water and aids in winter protection of crown. Prune in late winter to early spring. Can grow 4-5. Newest growth is without prickles while older canes have scattered prickles.
Associated Species: [6]
Other Rosa species, Silky Dogwood, Nannyberry
Field Observations:
An appropriate shrub for thickets, fencerows and roadsides. Flowers are 5-petaled and deep pink or rose colored and are fragrant. Can spread widely via canes although much less aggressively than with R. setigera. Hips are brilliant red and this species has been rated one of the best for fruit display. A better choice for smaller gardens.
