Cultural Information:

Plant in full sun or part sun/shade.  Does well on lower slopes where moisture is more consistent but tolerates dryer conditions.  A very fast growing species that produces porcelain blue berries in September.

Associated Species:

Gray Dogwood, Elderberry, Swamp White Oak, Pin Oak and Red Oak from personal observations.

Field Observations: 

A large shrub capable of growing 10 to 12′ tall.  Winter twigs are purple colored.  In central Ohio this shrub grows commonly in low areas that receive at least a little bit of direct sunlight during the day.
